Project Description:
Casting for an original comedy musical. In the style of The Blues Brothers, Sister Act, and Charlie's Angels, this show is a loving parody held together by the joint themes of sisterhood, and believing in yourself. Big comedy involving very heightened characters and physical humor. The wackier, the wilder, the better - though each character does have a sympathetic soul that should shine through. Musically, the show will have gospel/rock’n’roll/blues rock styles of performance.
Synopsis:
Three nuns form a crime-busting team of sassy sisters operating from an Irish pub called The Habit, under the rule of their Mother's Superior. They receive gadgets and guidance from the tech wizard Father Q. In the story, the nuns are tested by the hired hands of a big corporation that hires two PIs, Benny and Angelo, to stitch up the sisters so they can seize the Habit. The nuns find themselves in a crisis of faith. Faith in themselves.
Character:
Benny (18+) - Lead
About the Character:
The loveable, if ditzy, sidekick to Angelo. Benny is a young villain-in-training, who while following his instructions to the letter, often gets into deeper trouble, to his frequent dismay. Naive and perhaps a little uneducated in the ways of every man for himself, he looks up to Angelo and wants to climb the ladder to become a properly respected figure. He is defined by his need to be a better bad guy, and finally win his own self-respect.
Location & Date:
Scratch Night (to demonstrate a few scenes from the show) on 28 Jan. at the King's Arms
Rehearses on 7 and 13 Jan.; runs 17-18 (evening) and 20 (matinee) July 2024 at the Greater Manchester Fringe Festival.
Note:
At least one further rehearsal (date TBC).
